My investigation into the antiquity vessel began with a walk through via google earth and a deep dive into the history books of Asbury park. Certain Books helped me envision what the early past of Asbury Park looked like. With my Imagination enriched I was able to model objects that encoded deep histories of the site. Google Earth helped me access the everyday life of Asbury park known to us common people. I collected random objects that are largely overlooked and amassed them into the antiquity vessel where their history will be brought to light.
This gif depicts the parti of my project. The historical object in the middle is the container for historical objects random and important. The sun pinpoints the exact moment in time where deep histories of the site would be revealed. The underground has a double function. The remains of the foundation becomes a labyrinth and a reinforcement for the curation process into deep histories.
This video explains the importance of each historical object to the site. Also, it depicts the exact time each object became relevant and the relative position of the sun in relation to the historical object.
This is a render of the North Elevation showing in the forefront the old steam plant and to the left the Carousel and to the right the Antiquity Vessel. There are two informal entrances for egress purposes and two main entrances into the historical objects which will be shown in the plans ahead.
This render of the South Elevation showcases the Antiquity vessel on the left followed by the bathhouse, the arcade with the inverted ship hulls roof, the old casino carousel and lined on the bottom are shops. The antiquity vessel is restored to its full glory by restoring the wood, copper, and glass elements on its stepped gable façade. Atop the stepped gable the original ornate mystical creatures have been restored and at the center Poseidon adorns the Antiquity vessel at its apex providing super strength from the future rising tides.
Under Ground Plan
This under ground plan depicts two three story stairs that funnel into an underground linear circulation hall. The labyrinth above is represented in the rectangular dashed line. In the middle is an elevator shaft that raises people into the heart of the Antiquity Vessel.
Labyrinth Plan
This plan depicts the labyrinth which is accessible through ramps from each side. The labyrinth forces people to be disoriented while cuts in the ceiling actively connect and disconnect people from the antiquity vessel above. If the labyrinth user is successful an elevator can be found in the middle finally allowing them access into the heart of the Antiquity vessel
This render shows the original floor of the casino dropped into the Labyrinth level. The pre existing cement foundation acts as a labyrinth for maze goers to actively climb, crawl and get lost in while slivers of glass in the ceiling allow for a glimpse into the historical object.
First Floor Plan
This is the main floor plan which shows the new black wood slate floor and gallery walls extruded up from the foundation. Embedded into the floor are fragments of the old casino and glass floors allowing main floor users to perceive people lost in the under realm. The main circulation shown in a linear fashion allows those passing by to ignore the antiquity vessel. The Vertical circulation elements are reinforced in the center by the extruded existing foundation. At last, for egress purposes there are four exits on each corner of the main floor.
Shown in this photo is the beginning of the object curation towards the North Direction. The time of this photo was taken at the exact moment in which the great snowstorm of March 11 of 1888 swept through Asbury Park. this deep history is investigated for a minute with a beam of light radiating onto the cooler with “old snow”
This photo captures the main circulation where people can access either Asbury park or Ocean grove without disruption while glimpses of the historical object continually appear and disappear. The gallery walls have been painted white to allow the random and important objects of the Antiquity vessel to be easily apprehensive.
Second Floor Plan
This is the second floor plan where it seems to be floating but it's reinforced by the extruded foundation plan. This floor also has glass and historical fragments that allow all users from each level to be interconnected.
James A bradley is shown in his casket being memorialized at his exact time of death a hundred years ago. Hopefully he doesn't come back to haunt Asbury Park again.
On July 15 2020 at 10:00 am this render demonstrates the moment where a deep history involving the first annual baby parade took place in Asbury park is relived.
This photo best exemplifies the moment when these telescopic tubes shine their light in order ro reveal a deep history. On this particular time and date Asbury Parks first electric trolley has its final day making way for the modern day bus.
Reflected Ceiling Plan
This Reflected Ceiling plan shows the array of sun diffusers that preserve the preserved deep histories within the Antiquity vessel. Each tube is aligned perpendicular with the suns position in relation to the important historical objects.
Structure Plan
This plan depicts the structure of the gabled roof in relation to the telescopic tubes.
Roof Plan
This roof plan depict twelve large windows that allow light to flood into the art gallery
Shown here is a section cut right through the elevator core demonstrating cohesion amongst all of the floors. The scissor truss atop has four purposes. One to allow for room for the telescopic light tubes to be structurally sound, 2 for the row of arrayed sun diffusers to be connected to, third for a roof to be put up and the fourth reason is that it embraces the western and eastern wall together to allow the space within to be lofty.
This render also shows a section cut towards the south through the main vertical circulation core. Many of the random historical elements are shown in color arrayed randomly on the main and second floor.
This longitudinal section expresses how all of the levels flow and relate with each other.
In this axonometric shows the antiquity vessel in relation to the rest of the complex. It is aligned with the existing boardwalk that connects Asbury park to ocean grove and acts as a vessel for the public to interact with. This new antiquity vessel would offer users a new glimpse into the history of Asbury park through the power of architecture.
